National Jewish Health Eczema Program, Day 3

Last night was an ok night. Titus went to sleep about 9:30 pm, but then woke up at 10 and again at 11:30. After that, I (Matthew) rocked him to sleep and slept with him at my side with his head resting on my arm. This apparently comforts him as he sleeps much better. The next time he woke up was 3 am – he probably woke up because of me – I got really uncomfortable with his head on my arm, and finally had to pull it out and he woke up. I showed him Masha and the Bear cartoons, and he finally went back to sleep and didn’t…

National Jewish Health Atopic Dermatitis Program, Day 2

Titus and I (Matthew) had an ok night at the hospital. I made sure to use the bathroom before Linda and Mariya left as it would be pretty much impossible once I was the only one with Titus. I wasn’t looking forward to diaper changes either as they usually take at least two people when the baby is this itchy. Titus’ first stretch of sleep was about two hours. During that time, I made some final arrangements for my math subs back home and blogged about our day. The nurses had asked that I not swaddle him like we normally do, so I didn’t even though I really wanted to.…

National Jewish’ Pediatric Eczema Program, Day 1

We had a pretty rough night last night with the two babies in one room waking each other up. I think our hosts also had a rough night, as some of them still hadn’t gotten up by the time we left the house. 🙁 We arrived at NJH at 8:30 and checked in. We saw a few other kids doing food challenges, and you could hardly tell they had eczema. A nurse did his vitals and we got our room.  It’s a nice room with two beds, a comfy rocker/recliner and small fridge. We met with doctor Dutmer first, who did our intake. We went over all of Titus’ history…

    Safe in Denver

Thank you all for your prayers as we flew from Portland to Denver today. Everything went well and we are settled in Denver at the home of some family friends. They have made us feel very welcome and at home. The day started at 5:30 am with both babies screaming. They soon fell asleep again so we could get up at 6 am to finish final preparations. We had at least 8 inches of snow on the ground, and the roads were covered with packed snow and ice. Dad had put chains on our van last night, so we had no problem getting to the airport. It was a little…

    Flying out Tomorrow

Less than one week ago we posted that we were excited to see Titus’ fundraiser reach 50% of the target $20,000. Today it has reached $16,000! Thank you all so much for your support and prayers. We are very thankful for the opportunity to take Titus to the eczema program at National Jewish Health in Denver. We fly out tomorrow. Please pray for us as we travel with two babies. We are grateful to have Matthew’s sister, Linda, going with us to help with baby Charlie when we’re busy with Titus. Charlie, seven weeks old, has an ear infection right now which could make travel less enjoyable. Also, we have…

    Headed to National Jewish Health!

We are excited to see Titus’ fundraiser reach $10,000 today, half of the $20,000 goal! Thank you all for your generous donations, prayers, and support as we seek to help Titus get some relief from his severe eczema. We are very grateful. Special thanks to Colleen of The Family Pants blog for sharing Titus’ story and fundraiser. Also, if you have been following the fundraiser page, you know we are headed to National Jewish Health next week! They agreed to schedule us with a $7,500 down payment and will bill the rest afterwards. We are very excited and hopeful that the doctors there will be able to help Titus. We…

    Titus’ Eczema Fundraiser (Insurance Issues)

Two weeks ago we started a fundraiser to cover travel and out-of-pocket medical expenses to take Titus to National Jewish Health in Denver (see last post). We set a target of $5,000 and began sharing the page. In under 48 hours, many generous people raised the entire $5,000! We are very excited to see the way God is working through people to help Titus. Today, we found out that Titus insurance won’t cover the hospital bills, so we need an additional $10,000 to $15,000 in order to get him to Denver. (They would like a $15,000 down payment, but do offer 30% off the total bill if paid in cash).…

    Titus’ Eczema Story

This is about a boy who has severe itching all the time. This is about a boy and his parents who can’t get any sleep. This is about a boy who is so itchy he can hardly eat, play, take a bath, ride in the car, or anything else. This is about a boy who needs to be cared for 24/7 so that he doesn’t itch and rip his skin open. This is about our sweet boy, Titus. Titus’ Story Titus lived his first month as a normal, itch-free baby. At one month old, he began to develop some cradle cap on his head and eye brows. The cradle cap…
